Putting the Final Touch On Your Ride with Wheel Center Caps

Wheel Center Caps: Not Only Essential But Stylish

When it comes to branding options, car producers have a lot of distinct ways to ensure that cars are marked as a particular manufacturing, such as placing the company or car’s logo on a variety of different points. One of the most common is the center of the wheel, which is called a wheel center cap. Wheel center caps, unfortunately, take a lot of wear and tear through regular, day to day use, and can often get bumped or scratched.

If you have a car that’s lost a wheel centre cap, it feels a little bit odd – the wheels are unbalanced, the lug nuts may or may not be revealed, and it looks a little bit incomplete. Luckily, there’s a thriving after market of substitute center caps that can be purchased and put on your car. These can range from original factory substitutions to custom-built wheel caps built around a motif. It is the little details that make a car look finished, and one of the best ways to better the resale value of your car is to replace the wheel caps – it’s something that most people subconsciously respond to as a sign for ‘well cared for vehicle’.

Many individuals, after performing a little bit of research, discover that most wheels – even those of different sizes – have cap mounting points in common. It might be a little ridiculous to imagine setting Toyota center caps on the hubs of a Daewoo, but they will attach there. You don’t even have to proceed with the standard chrome moly alloy, since caps come now in aluminum or stamped stainless steel.

Beyond buying factory substitutes, there are companies that will sell custom wheel caps – these can be ornamental in a lot of ways. Some use licensed logos (like the logo of a favorite sports franchise or college campus), others are more artistic, covering religious or musical themes. Others can be personalized; it’s feasible to get a center cap done up (usually in ABS plastic) with nearly any kind of artwork you desire, say your initials, or a subject matter you believe in. (We’ve spotted SUVs sporting “Holding back glaciers” on theirs…)

If you’re buying a custom-made set of wheel center caps, it’s key to know the diameter of your tyres, and to know how the caps attach before you buy. Luckily, there’s a lot of information available online on this – you can find your model of car, find the size of the tires, and find out if they’re a four, five or six nut mounting system, or if they’re a screw on rim center cap or an applique system.

Remember that in addition to ornamentation, wheel centre caps also protect the lugnuts that hold your wheel on the car from corroding; this can be critical when you have to remove a tire. Not much is less pleasant than fighting rusted lugnuts off in the a downpour when you have to change a flat – so keep that vital protection function in mind.
